Design concept: Interpreting the philosophy of renewable energy through spatial language
The design of OX2 Milan office has established a clear core from the beginning - to make the space a three-dimensional expression of the concept of renewable energy. As a leading renewable energy developer in Europe, OX2 AB has injected the sustainable genes of its Swedish headquarters into this office space transformed from a residential building in the center of Milan. The primary challenge faced by Stefania Micotti Architetto's design team is the limitation of the existing architectural layout: it is not possible to carry out large-scale floor plan renovations, and the original floor and ceiling structures must be preserved.
This limitation has instead given rise to unique design strategies - through innovative use of colors and materials, transforming the central load-bearing wall of the building into the protagonist of spatial narrative. These heavy walls have been given a new mission, no longer as barriers to separation, but as visual links connecting various functional areas, just as OX2 has done in the energy field - breaking the boundaries of traditional energy systems and building sustainable ecological networks. The design team cleverly adopted the principle of "minimal intervention" in the transformation, echoing the core values of "respecting the natural foundation" in renewable energy development.
Color scheme: Sustainable aesthetic expression of sage tone
Entering the OX2 Milan office, the first thing that strikes the senses is the consistent green color scheme, with the use of sage tones being the finishing touch. The design team, starting from the natural attributes of renewable energy, abandoned the industrial saturation color and instead chose a gradient transition from blue gray to mustard color. This low saturation color combination retains the calm restraint of Nordic design while incorporating the warm texture of Italian space.
The subtlety of the sage color scheme lies in its dual symbolic meaning: visually, it is like an efficient converter in new energy technology, softening strong sunlight into comfortable indoor light; Conceptually, this neutral color between blue-green perfectly embodies the corporate philosophy of balancing technological innovation and ecological protection in OX2. To strengthen this natural connection, the team uses processed green plants to cover the walls and incorporates plant elements into the lighting equipment design, creating a harmonious coexistence between artificial lighting and natural elements. This color strategy successfully avoids the superficial treatment of the "green" theme, allowing sustainable concepts to subtly penetrate into the perception of each user through visual nerves.
