On the road to a sustainable future, adidas uses its RED building in Portland, Oregon, to demonstrate the design wisdom of minimalism and flexibility as a dual path.Created by the O+A design team, the space is not only a place where new products are displayed and offices are integrated, but also a luxurious experience journey for the future, which runs through the immersive expression of sports genes, digital technology and art installations.

As the exclusive space of the Adidas sales team, the RED building echoes the brand’s commitment to a sustainable future with a minimalist architectural language and a flexible layout. The design uses a series of “editable real spaces”-such as a simple white box exhibition hall and a multifunctional black box theater-to achieve rapid scene conversion, adapt to different display and event needs, and reflect a high degree of adaptability.
Digital technology is integrated in the space, from the oversized video screen at the entrance to the dynamic light box in the corridor, the brand story is told while walking. The art installations in the elevator halls on each floor are made of sustainable materials used in Adidas’ new products of the season, such as recycled yarns and 4D printed insoles, which transform product innovation into spatial narratives and strengthen sustainable material expression in the future.

The upper office area continues the minimalist and flexible office furniture system, forming a functional and visual unity with the exhibition hall, supporting the team to collaborate efficiently according to the rhythm of new product releases, reflecting the deep integration of the office environment and the brand mission.
The entire building is not only a display stage for products, but also adidas’ physical declaration towards the goal of carbon neutrality-it reduces redundancy through minimalism, extends space life through flexibility, promotes sustainable processes with design, and gives the brand a concrete optimism and belief in the future.
